SPINAL CORD STIMULATION / NEUROMODULATION

Get Pain Management Support

in the Rocky Mountain Area

If you are living with chronic pain, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) or neuromodulation may be an option to consider. Spinal Cord Stimulation and Neuromodulation are offered at Western Rockies Interventional Pain Specialists to reduce chronic pain caused by spinal cord injury, failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS), complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and other conditions.

Pain Management Solutions for Patients With Chronic Pain

Both spinal cord stimulation and neuromodulation have been shown to be effective in offering pain management solutions for patients with chronic pain. The team at Western Rockies Interventional Pain Specialists is experienced in providing spinal cord stimulation and neuromodulation therapies and can help you determine if this is the right treatment for you. We offer spinal cord stimulation and neuromodulation therapies for patients living with chronic pain in the Rocky Mountain area including Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Wyoming.

Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulators are implanted to treat a localized area of pain by treating specific pain fibers within the spinal cord. The stimulator interrupts the pain signals before they reach the brain and are perceived as pain.

This treatment is appropriate for patients with the following types of pain that either cannot be identified or treated directly:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Leg pain
  • Arm pain

Some examples of conditions typically treated with spinal cord stimulation include, but are not limited to: phantom limb pain, failed-back surgery syndrome, and complex regional pain syndrome. A four-day trial with a temporary system precedes all implants. Permanent implantation is only performed if the four-day trial was successful. The trial placement is done in our office and the permanent implant is placed at the hospital in the operating room.

Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation is the process of modulating or controlling pain by stimulating nerve fibers. This can be done by using electrical stimulation or drugs. Neuromodulation is a relatively new pain management treatment that has been shown to be effective in reducing pain for many patients who experience chronic pain. Spinal cord stimulation is a type of neuromodulation that is performed with a spinal cord stimulation device. Spinal cord stimulation modulates pain signals to the spinal cord and eventually, the brain. The Benefits of Spinal Cord Stimulation & Neuromodulation

Benefits of Spinal Cord Stimulation Img 1

Reduction in Pain Intensity

One of the primary benefits of spinal cord stimulation is that it can help to reduce pain intensity. In many cases, spinal cord stimulation can provide relief from chronic pain that has not been responsive to other treatments.

Improved Quality of Life

In addition to reducing pain, spinal cord stimulation can also improve quality of life. Patients who undergo spinal cord stimulation often report improvements in mood, sleep, and overall quality of life.

Reduced Reliance on Pain Medications

Many spinal cord stimulation patients no longer need to rely on pain medications once spinal cord stimulation has been effective in reducing their pain. This can not only improve quality of life but also help to reduce the risk of negative side effects from pain medications.
